When it was completed in 1875, the Collin County Courthouse was considered the tallest building in Texas north of San Antonio. The grand building featured a steep mansard roof with patterned shingles and decorative cut stone. In 1927, the Courthouse was drastically remodeled in the neoclassical style and served as a functioning courthouse until 1979. After sitting vacant for nearly 25 years, the building re-opened as McKinney Performing Arts Center on March 31, 2006. MPAC is in operation seven days a week and provides guests with experiences rich in history and culture. MPAC is located in the center of McKinney?s downtown square and adjacent to a historical neighborhood filled with Victorian, Queen Anne and Craftsman style homes.
