In 1979 the Copernicus Center, established to serve the metropolitan Chicago area as a major civic, cultural, educational, recreational and entertainment resource, purchasing the old Gateway Theater. The Gateway Theater was the first movie theater in Chicago built exclusively for the ?talkies,? and is a historic landmark.
Meeting rooms, banquet and party spaces with kitchens and bars suit a variety of social and corporate events. The renovated beautiful bar in the vast Lobby venue makes it a unique location for special events and weddings; with brides enjoying pictures on the elegant spiral staircase. The theater has been restored to preserve its classic 1930?s look and is also available as a venue rental.
