History The Union Club has a rich history dating back to 1872. The club was a group of cultured gentlemen of the highest status in the city at the time and throughout the ages. They originally met in a three-story brick landmark formerly known as the Truman Handy mansion. The current clubhouse was commissioned in 1903 and completed in late 1905 by architect Charles Schweinfurth. It has since welcomed a number of influential figures including presidents and members of congress.
