    History
Since first opening in 1927, Avalon Hollywood has been a show business epicenter. First known as the Hollywood Playhouse, the venue has gone through a series of renaming until settling on Avalon in 2002. In the 1950s, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Judy Garland were brought to its stage, while Jerry Lewis also hosted his weekly Saturday night television program here. The 1960s hosted a new ABC variety show at the theatre, bringing Louis Armstrong, Joan Crawford, The Rolling Stones, and The Jackson 5. In 1978, the building was restored into a concert venue and nightclub and has since hosted some of the world?s most famous celebrities such as Prince, Madonna, Duran Duran, Nirvana, and The Beastie Boys. Today, its recent notable performances include Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, and other celebrity DJs.
