HistoryIn 1920, a group of girls got together to play and ride their ponies on an Atherton estate. They soon decided to have a circus for their parents, friends, and neighbors. One of the mothers suggested to donate the proceeds from the circus to the Stanford Convalescent Home, which is now the Lucille Packard Children?s Hospital. That very first circus raised $500 and each year after it continued to grow and raise more money. In 1922 the land was purchased to develop the Menlo Circus Club that has since hosted many horse shows, polo matches, swimming and tennis tournaments, gala parties, events, and more. The property has continued to evolve over the years but has always been a family club.
